Musician Referral - Practical Tips

By: Paul Zayer

Some persons are just born to be musicians. Once they have it mentally, it is in their blood, and there truly is no way to get rid of it. I have known this to be true a lot of times. I know many of them, I am married to one, and there are a few in my family. I even know a few from the other side of the globe. They all have a few things in common. They are brilliant, and there is nothing that could stop them from playing, even after an accident threatens their lifestyle. The major difficulty they have is finding the right people to play with when one group does not function well. This is when the musician referral comes into play, and that is how a lot of good performers meet each other.

There are a lot of places to find a musician referral, and I know there are many on Internet. The difficulty is getting someone who resides close to your place, and a performer who has talent and the determination to invest time for the success of the group. There are a lot of good players around, but styles and personalities do not all the time fit. This is the difficult part of a musician referral. Some want to give more time than others, and some have no idea of what it means to be in a music group. Good singers evidently find each other, but it is more complicated than it looks.

If you need to get a musician referral, first make sure to be very clear about what you are looking for in a group partner. You may need a guitar player, but do you need someone that has their own car? You have to consider about when you perform. Will he be able to be there every session? You also have to think about equipment. Do they have enough? What expertise do they have? Do they like the same style of music? Do they have obligations that could keep them from appearances? Those are all good questions that could be discussed when getting a musician referral.

It might sound discouraging to recrute a performer through a musician referral, but it is a good way to go about it. Don't forget to give it time, and don't just recrut the first person that responds without knowing if they are a fine match. My husband tells me that the best musician referral is other groups, and he doesn't mean questioning them if they know somebody. Groups steal members from other groups all the time. It's not quite honest, but it looks like it's part of the deal. Best of luck to you and enjoy your search into discovering a perfect musician match.
