How To Look For Legal Prescription Internet Pharmacies

By: Abbey Grace Yap

For regular people, it’s never a problem to go to the pharmacy to buy medicine or to fill prescription medications. But for people who cannot go out of the house, be it because of a medical condition or a very hectic schedule, Internet pharmacies have proven itself an alternative to the conventional way of obtaining medicine. However, with the sudden boom of the online drugstore business, it is becoming more and more difficult to discern a legal Internet pharmacy from the fake ones.

Internet pharmacies have been flooding cyberspace with pop-up ads and spam email notifications promoting offers that may be too good to be true – prescription medication available at very low prices and without the need for a valid prescription. To top it all off, they even offer a free overnight delivery service that sends your order straight to your doorstep. For people who are cutting corners to fill prescriptions and for people who are unable to go to the pharmacy to buy medications, Internet pharmacies offer a convenient option. But is it really safe to fill prescription medications from prescription Internet pharmacies?

Almost everything can be done through the Internet- from paying your bills, doing your shopping, to making reservations for flights and amenities, anything! And it is because of this convenience that opportunistic people set-up false business with aims of ripping people off of their hard-earned money. It is for this reason the people need to be more alert and aware on how to distinguish a legal prescription Internet pharmacy from the others.

Run a brief background check on the company you wish to order from. Make sure that the Internet pharmacy is state-licensed and is located within the United States. All pharmacies and pharmacists are licensed by the state board of pharmacy. The online drugstore needs to meet the standards set by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) to be a member of the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS).

Look for an Internet pharmacy that requires a valid prescription before they dispense your ordered medications. The valid prescription is needed as proof that you have consulted a licensed medical professional or healthcare provider for proper diagnosis. Having a valid prescription note also means that you’ve been prescribed the appropriate medication required to treat your condition.

It is important to make sure that your privacy is protected when you purchase medications from Internet pharmacies. Risks of identity theft and unauthorized credit card purchases are not far from happening. So before buying from any online drugstore, make sure that you read and understand the company’s privacy and security policy before acknowledging any term of agreement. Never submit any personal or financial information unless you’re sure that the website will keep your data safe and protected. Lastly, always make sure that the company will not sell your submitted data or use your information for any other purpose, unless you have otherwise given them permission.

Keeping the World Wide Web a safe place for business is everybody’s responsibility. It is your duty to report suspicious websites to the proper authorities to stop it from victimizing more and more people. Not only does this protect your privacy, but it may also help save your health and that of others.
