For Women-How To Choose A Costume

By: Ray Cook

How to Choose the Best Women's Costume

For most grown ups, Halloween had a tendency to be more of a lesson in costume hunting than a holiday for imagination and candy. However, if you can get passed this seeming small hurdle you will be on your way to pretending you are having a carefree night. Customarily, ladies will have a more difficult time trying to find the right costume. For once, though, it may be for good reason--there are hundreds upon thousands of choices for ladies of all shapes, personalities, and sizes. That said, most adult ladies costumes wind up falling into two main categories--sexy costumes and all the others.

I've noticed that the sexy category has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years, the plus side of this being that the costume options are more diverse. It's not just a French maid or sexy lady cop (though these are still great choices). Sexy costumes have branched out to include pop culture. Because of movies like 'Charlie's Angels' and shows like 'Alias', ladies can now have a more specific sexy and strong figure in mind for Halloween. After all, it's, the one and only night in a year when a normally very professional and demure woman can get away with cutting loose a little bit in public.

On the other end of the spectrum; the not necessarily sexy genre, there is also a great collection of choices. Movies and TV shows can still be an inspiration in this case. So-called classic television shows like 'I Dream of Jeanie' and 'I Love Lucy' have attractive female characters to dress up as. Period costumes are also a fantastic option. A complicated Renaissance era costume or even a twenties flapper dress can be really fun.The 1950s is another great time period to play with. Think ponytails and poodle skirts. Most importantly, try to match your own personality to your costume or vice versa. There's just not much that completes an outfit better than your own acting.

Certainly there are the familiar Costume ideas like a ghost, a witch, a cat, etc. These are likely a front runner for the traditional Halloween partier. Almost any costume can be altered to have a sexier, sleeker look or you can play it down, and maintain your modesty. Plus size costumes are available in practically every style now. It's important to pick a costume you're relaxed and comfortable in, both physically and mentally. It's pretty challenging to achieve your look if you do not feel confident in your halloween costume.

When you've finally picked your halloween costume, don't forget to accessorize with feather duster, wig, jewelry, a matching handbag, make-up -- anything that is is appropriate for your costume. It can't be stressed enough the impact can have on a woman's costume. With all your finishing touches in place, get going to your party prepared to amaze other guests at the party. Have some fun this Halloween and live some of fantasies. Really, that's what halloween is really about.
